Curaçao Port of call

Willemstad

Choose town or the coast.

Willemstad is a town-and-food port as well as a beach gateway. Start with your assigned terminal, check the crossing between Otrobanda and Punda, then choose a city walk or a separate ride to Mambo Beach.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Mega Cruise Terminal in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Walking between city neighborhoods

Queen Emma Bridge connects Otrobanda and Punda. Check the port’s latest crossing arrangements before setting off, particularly during maintenance, and leave time to get back to your side of the harbor.

Curaçao Ports Authority: bridge notices

A taxi for the beach

Both listed cruise terminals have taxi stands. Our advice: agree on the group price, currency, exact beach entrance and return pickup time before departure.

Curaçao Ports Authority: cruise terminals

Choose the correct city bus terminal

The tourist board distinguishes small Bus vans from larger Konvoi buses and identifies their main city terminals at Waaigat in Punda and in Otrobanda. It links to Autobusbedrijf for large-bus route planning and Smartpass information. Checked October 6, 2026. Verify the route, boarding point, fare and both departures with the operator. A city bus terminal is separate from your assigned cruise passenger exit, and a bus listing does not establish a complete beach transfer or harbor crossing.

Waterfront crossing and own-terminal return

Save the assigned Mega Cruise Terminal or Mathey Wharf exit and confirm today’s Otrobanda–Punda crossing before setting out for Handelskade. A dated maintenance end is not reopening confirmation. Choose an available crossing and a manageable waterfront route, then return to your terminal’s side with crossing waits and ship-entry time. This city outing does not require Mambo Beach transport.

Mambo entrance and return taxi

Agree the taxi pickup at your assigned cruise terminal and a specific Mambo Beach entrance, then confirm the return meeting point and time before settling in. Check beach access and rentals separately. Include both drives, traffic and pickup waits, then ship-entry time at the actual terminal; this plan does not depend on a pedestrian harbor crossing.

Plan your spending

Check the currency

A menu marked in guilders is not a U.S.-dollar menu. Our advice: ask which currency will be charged and inspect the bill before paying. Cash change from U.S. dollars will usually be in guilders.

Our advice: for a beach day, add both taxi rides, admission, chairs and food. For a town day, choose your paid attraction and lunch first, then leave room for the walk back.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Willemstad? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Willemstad. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

Can I explore independently?

Our suggestion: explore the waterfront, have lunch in Otrobanda or Punda, then return with time to spare. Check the crossing before committing to a restaurant on the other side. This is our planning suggestion. Compare a ship excursion or reputable independent tour for more complicated outings, including the meeting point and return arrangements.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Caribbean guilders and US$. How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

Protect bags and beach belongings, and avoid isolated areas after dark. Government guidance says to carry a copy of the passport photo page. Registered taxis have TX on their number plates; agree the fare before travel because most are unmetered. These precautions do not verify a particular route from the cruise pier.
