Juneau is a state capital with no road to the rest of the world, reachable only by boat or plane, and ships tie up in the middle of it. The Mendenhall Glacier is twenty minutes away and the tramway up Mount Roberts starts at the dock, which makes this the easiest Alaskan day to do independently.
