Which one should you choose?

Start with what you want to do on a sea day. Our recommendation: investigate Royal Caribbean first if waterslides, climbing and big onboard activities are priorities. Look at Celebrity if the drink-and-Wi-Fi bundle appeals and those thrill attractions are less important. That is our interpretation of the documented offerings, not a guarantee about every ship or sailing.

Neither brand name tells you everything. Choose the actual ship, itinerary and cabin before deciding.

Activities: check the ship, not just the line

Royal Caribbean lists pools, fitness facilities and entertainment within its standard fare. Its activity menu can include waterslides, rock climbing, FlowRider, bumper cars and laser tag, but availability depends on the ship. The same applies to ice shows and AquaTheater performances. A ship without a particular attraction cannot deliver it, however familiar the brand is.

Start with our Royal Caribbean ships and fare inclusions, then open the ships you are considering.

Families: Celebrity is not adults-only

Celebrity has Camp at Sea for children ages 3–12 and teen programming for ages 13–17 on its ocean ships, with exceptions. Celebrity Flora and the river fleet do not offer those dedicated programs. Its current Camp at Sea page also identifies Celebrity Solstice as having teen programming without a dedicated teen facility.

Daytime Camp at Sea sessions are complimentary; late-night service costs extra. Celebrity does not offer nursery drop-off for children under three. For a family with a baby or toddler, that is a practical detail to check before comparing fares.

Royal Caribbean includes Adventure Ocean youth programming. Confirm ages, nursery availability and any chargeable sessions for your specific ship.

Drinks and Wi-Fi: compare the fare you will actually buy

Royal Caribbean identifies beverage packages, Wi-Fi and specialty dining as optional extras. Celebrity's All Included option bundles its Classic Drinks Package and Basic Wi-Fi on eligible bookings. Everyone sharing the cabin must select the same rate.

Celebrity's current package page says to select All Included at booking. Do not assume you can add that same bundled fare later. Check the written inclusions in your quote, including gratuities and package restrictions, rather than reading “All Included” as a promise that every expense is covered.

See the dated inclusion tables on our Celebrity Cruises page.

Which is cheaper?

There is no permanent winner. Compare the same travel period, cruise length, cabin category and number of guests. Then add the drinks, internet, dining and other extras you actually want.

Our practical verdict

  • Start with Royal Caribbean if a specific onboard attraction is a must-have, and verify it exists on your chosen ship.
  • Consider Celebrity if you want its eligible drinks-and-Wi-Fi bundle and its documented family programming suits your household.
  • If you want an adults-only vacation, do not assume Celebrity provides one.
  • If price decides it, compare complete quotes for the actual departures rather than declaring one line cheaper.
