United States Departure & port-visit guide

Seattle

Market stalls, outdoor art, a city view.

Seattle starts many Alaska cruises and also welcomes visiting ships. Confirm Pier 66 or Pier 91 before choosing Pike Place Market, Olympic Sculpture Park or a timed Space Needle visit. Airport arrival, luggage and boarding need their own budget. Ferries, regional hikes and longer road trips are separate outings.

Option 1

Explore on your own

Choose a plan for the stops, food, walking and extra costs. Before sailing, arrange luggage storage and follow your cruise line’s check-in window and final boarding deadline. On a port call, use the ship’s all-aboard time to set your return.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Pike Place Market in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

After your cruise

Port Valet has a specific role

Port Valet sends eligible passengers’ bags from the ending cruise to their airline. Confirm current cruise, airline and flight eligibility. It does not transport passengers or establish luggage arrangements before boarding.

Getting around

Arrange both journeys

Our suggestion: confirm pickup, accessibility, waiting, outward and return travel and the passenger entrance. Exact distances, travel times and fares remain unverified.

Westlake to your assigned pier

The port estimates about 20 minutes walking or 6 minutes by car from Westlake Station to Pier 66, versus about 15 minutes by car to Pier 91. These are downtown-to-pier estimates, not the airport ride or port checks. Link light rail reaches Westlake; confirm current rail service and the final terminal approach. Checked Oct 5, 2026.

Port of Seattle: airport and Westlake connections (checked Oct 5, 2026)

Pier 91 bus approach has stairs

The port warns that routes 24 and 33 drop passengers near a busy bridge, with a steep staircase and about a 10-minute walk after reaching its base. Do not assume this is suitable with suitcases or a wheelchair. Arrange an appropriate transfer when that approach does not suit your needs.

Port of Seattle: bus-stop approach warning (checked Oct 5, 2026)

ORCA validation differs by rail service

Sound Transit says to tap an ORCA card before boarding Link light rail; no tap off is needed on Link or buses. Sounder commuter rail requires a destination tap off. Ticket machines and contactless bank-card payment are also listed. Confirm your chosen service and the separate downtown-to-Pier 66 or Pier 91 connection. Checked Oct 6, 2026.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Seattle? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Port details

Can I walk from the ship?

Pier 66 and Pier 91 have different approaches. The port estimates Westlake-to-Pier-66 walking at about 20 minutes; it gives a 15-minute car estimate to Pier 91 instead. Pier 91’s nearby bus approach includes a steep staircase and further walking. These figures do not establish complete routes to Pike Place or the Sculpture Park.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Seattle. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. U.S. dollars (USD). Confirm payment methods and the complete bill directly. No exchange rate or whole-day budget is established here.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

How does luggage drop-off work?

Confirm when and where you may drop luggage before boarding. Port Valet is an eligible end-of-cruise luggage service, not an embarkation bag drop or passenger transfer.
