Honduras Port of call

Roatán

Your terminal shapes the day.

Start by checking which Roatán port your ship uses. Coxen Hole and Isla Tropicale, formerly Mahogany Bay, are separate places. Your terminal determines whether you can walk to the port beach or need transport for a West Bay outing.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Port of Roatan, Coxen Hole in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Book to the correct port

Our advice: save the terminal name and your operator’s meeting instructions before going ashore. If a pickup involves walking outside the complex, ask how far and whether the route suits your group.

Agree on the whole ride

For a West Bay or West End outing, confirm the group price, whether the driver waits, the pickup time and the return terminal. Our suggestion is to choose one area and spend time there.

Check whether your booking is shared

Discover Roatan describes its standard packages as shared transportation, with private transportation available as an upgrade. For this operator, save the supplied port-exit meeting instructions and bring the paid booking invoice and photo ID. Tell the operator in advance about a folding wheelchair or scooter so it can arrange a suitable vehicle. Confirm the actual arrival port, pickup and written return arrangement for your booking.

Discover Roatan: booking and transportation FAQ

Stay at your assigned arrival complex

At Coxen Hole, keep the outing at Town Center; at Isla Tropicale, use its own plaza and beach connection if available to your sailing. Confirm your actual port before going ashore. The Tropicale operator describes a walking path and paid chairlift, with a minimum height requirement for the lift; ask about operation and access for your group. Include the pier-to-plaza approach and the beach return, any chairlift waiting and terminal re-entry. This local choice does not require a West Bay or West End road transfer, and the other port’s beach is not assumed available.

West Bay drop-off and same-port return

Give the driver your actual Coxen Hole or Isla Tropicale arrival, and choose a named West Bay access point before departure. Include getting to the vehicle, pickup waiting, both road journeys, the approach to the sand and terminal re-entry. Confirm the return place, time and group fare; if booking a shared package, use that operator’s written meeting and return arrangements rather than assuming a private waiting driver. La Palapa is an optional meal at Infinity Bay; check day-visitor access and facilities separately from dining.

One West End area and an agreed pickup

Choose a specific West End drop-off and a reachable return meeting place, then confirm the ride back to your own Coxen Hole or Isla Tropicale terminal. Include port exit, pickup waiting, both road legs and access between the vehicle, your chosen beach area and food stop. Keep this outing in West End rather than using West Bay’s pickup arrangements. A shared excursion has its own schedule: confirm the operator’s instructions and return allowance against your ship’s all-aboard time.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Roatán? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Find tours for your port visit

Search up to one year ahead. Schedules are indicative; confirm available departure times and your group’s final price on Viator.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Roatán. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Lempiras and U.S. dollars. U.S. dollars are widely accepted, but not every business takes cards. Confirm the currency and bring small cash for transport and purchases.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

From Isla Tropicale

Our suggestion: for a low-travel day, use the port beach and have a meal in the complex. Check service hours and allow time to walk or ride back to the plaza.

Our suggestion: arrange a return ride to one West Bay beach stop, with lunch nearby. If you prefer staying at the terminal, browse the Town Center and check the food options there.
