Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Piedra Buena pier in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Confirm the wildlife return

Our suggestion: agree the reserve pickup and full return arrangement before leaving. Transfer times and taxi fares have not been verified. A tour’s advertised activity time is not the whole port-to-port budget.

Ecocentro address and return ride

The Ecocentro lists Julio Verne 3784 as its visitor address. Confirm opening and admission directly before reserving both rides. Give the driver your assigned pier and agree the return meeting point at the center; check exhibit access separately from vehicle boarding and the ship’s permitted port exit. Checked October 6, 2026.

Punta Loma road and reserve pickup

Tourism describes a gravel approach south of town to Punta Loma. Ask the operator about the day’s road and reserve access, vehicle suitability, and assistance between the drop-off and cliff-top viewing area. Agree pickup and return to your assigned cruise pier before leaving; keep Península Valdés as a separate outing. Checked October 6, 2026.

Make room for lunch

Use the local venue directory

The tourism office lists restaurants, parrillas, cafés and other food venues. Our suggestion: choose one near your city stop and confirm current menus, dietary needs and the bill directly. No current menu prices are researched.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Puerto Madryn? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Find tours for your port visit

Search up to one year ahead. Schedules are indicative; confirm available departure times and your group’s final price on Viator.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Puerto Madryn. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Argentine pesos (ARS). Confirm the currency, card acceptance and full bill for transport, admission and meals.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

UK FCDO advises precautions against street theft in Argentina. Keep valuables discreet and check current local conditions before going ashore. This national advice does not establish the safety of a particular pier-to-town walking route.

Berth assignment: Confirm onboard

APPM’s cruise regulations say berth allocation considers vessel characteristics and weather. A pier shown on a city map is not confirmation of your ship’s berth.

Three Puerto Madryn choices

Waterfront and a city break

Our suggestion: explore a comfortable section beside Golfo Nuevo, then choose a nearby café. Check local conditions before any beach activity; wildlife viewing depends on the season and conditions.
