Turks and Caicos Islands Port of call

Grand Turk

Beach time or island history.

Grand Turk can be a beach day straight from the ship or a trip into Cockburn Town for the museum and waterfront. The cruise center is at the island’s southern end, so decide whether you want to stay nearby or arrange a ride into town.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Getting around

Cruise-center access and the beach

Independent guide Visit Turks and Caicos reports ramp access to cruise-center shops and bathrooms, but says it is not aware of beach-wheelchair rentals there. Check equipment with your ship before relying on it. Shop access does not establish a route across sand or into the pool. Checked Oct 1, 2026.

Arrange rental collection and return before leaving

The port’s rental directory lists Island Auto Rentals, Island View Rentals and Wildplay Adventures TCI for golf carts. Checked October 6, 2026. Contact the provider to confirm availability, collection point, licence requirements, insurance, the complete price and return procedure before planning an island drive. The directory does not verify a terminal pickup, rental price, accessible vehicle or complete driving route. Leave time to return the vehicle and reach your own ship’s passenger entrance.

Booking & access

Ask your ship about assistance along the pier and the venue about the particular beach, pool or gallery access you need. A taxi booking and a map location do not establish step-free access. For the museum, confirm call-day opening and the return pickup before leaving the cruise center. Checked Oct 6, 2026.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Grand Turk. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

Can I explore independently?

Our suggestion: settle into a beach spot near the cruise center, have lunch and browse the shops before the walk back to your ship. Price shade and food before choosing a rental package. This is our planning suggestion. Compare a ship excursion or reputable independent tour for more complicated outings, including the meeting point and return arrangements.

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

Government guidance identifies Grand Turk among islands affected by serious crime, including robbery and gun-related incidents in public areas. Use licensed taxis, avoid informal jitney rides and isolated areas after dark, and secure valuables. Livestock can be on Grand Turk roads and street lighting is limited; this is not a rating of an individual walking route.
