Martinique Departure & port-visit guide

Fort-de-France

City streets or a cross-bay beach.

Choose between a city day with Creole lunch and a beach outing across the bay. Check whether your ship uses Pointe Simon or Tourelles before planning the walk into town. A ferry trip needs its own return allowance as well as time to reach your ship.

Choose a plan for the stops, food, walking and extra costs. Before sailing, arrange luggage storage and follow your cruise line’s check-in window and final boarding deadline. On a port call, use the ship’s all-aboard time to set your return.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Pointe Simon terminal in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Check the ferry destination carefully

Blue Lines serves routes across the bay to the Trois-Îlets area, including Pointe du Bout and Anse à l'Âne. Choose the landing that matches your beach plan; these names are not interchangeable stops.

Blue Lines: routes and service information

Plan the return before buying

Our advice is to select a return sailing with enough spare time to recover from a missed boat. Add the trip from the ferry landing back to your cruise terminal. If the timetable leaves little margin, keep the day in Fort-de-France.

Anse Mitan ferry and terminal return

Confirm the connection from your assigned cruise terminal to the Fort-de-France ferry departure point. Select the Blue Lines landing that serves your Anse Mitan visit, check the onward beach approach and choose an earlier confirmed return sailing. Include ferry boarding waits, missed-service recovery and the final trip back to your ship.

Market browsing is a separate stop

The covered market is a place to explore fruit, produce and spices. For a sit-down lunch, choose a restaurant and confirm when its kitchen serves. Buy only what your ship permits you to bring aboard.

Port details

Can I walk from the ship?

Pointe Simon is on the city waterfront. Tourelles is a separate terminal; confirm the route into the center and any shuttle before treating both arrivals as the same walk.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Fort-de-France. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

Can I explore independently?

Our suggested short-call plan is a library and cathedral walk, market browsing, lunch around Rue Garnier Pagès and a waterfront stop. Save time for the journey back to your assigned terminal. This is our planning suggestion. Compare a ship excursion or reputable independent tour for more complicated outings, including the meeting point and return arrangements.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

The government advice page checked on 5 October warns that protest-related restrictions and curfews may change, affecting transport and shops. Check the Martinique prefecture and your transport operator before an outing, and avoid demonstrations. Keep valuables secure and avoid isolated beaches after dark. This source check does not independently confirm today’s operating conditions.
