St. Lucia Port of call

Castries

Start with your own terminal.

Check whether your ship uses Pointe Seraphine or La Place Carenage before planning the day. Reduit Beach is an option for a separate beach outing; Pigeon Island has a dated closure notice that needs checking before you travel.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Pointe Seraphine in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

A beach return you can find

Our advice: agree on a specific Reduit pickup point, fare and return time before leaving Castries. Keep your own terminal name in the driver’s booking details.

Recognize the service before boarding

Saint Lucia’s tourism authority identifies authorized taxis by light-blue plates with a TX prefix and minibuses by green plates with an M prefix. Its published minibus fare range is EC$2.50 to EC$8, checked October 6, 2026; routes and operating times vary. Confirm the destination and current fare before boarding. For a beach return, check the actual route and pickup location or agree a taxi fare and collection time back to your assigned cruise terminal.

Saint Lucia Tourism Authority: getting around

Keep the arrival areas separate

Confirm Pointe Seraphine or La Place Carenage before choosing food or shops. The port lists a water taxi between them and no port shuttle; verify service and boarding assistance before crossing. Keep the visit on your own side if the return cannot be confirmed, rather than treating both terminals as successive required stops. Checked October 6, 2026.

Reduit pickup back to your terminal

Reduit is in Rodney Bay, away from either cruise arrival area. Agree a named beach drop-off and pickup, the full group fare and the return to your own terminal. Ask about the approach from the vehicle to the sand and assistance before departure; leave any additional sightseeing optional. Checked October 6, 2026.

Pointe Seraphine meal and harbor return

Café 758 and Pink Papaya are Pointe Seraphine choices. If your ship uses La Place Carenage, confirm how to reach the complex and return before ordering; a listed restaurant opening does not confirm port access or a usable crossing. Check that day’s kitchen service, restaurant entry and any boat-boarding assistance directly. Checked October 6, 2026.

Transport and beach spending

Our advice: ask separately about the return ride, chairs, shade and lunch. Confirm whether a transport quote is per person or for your group before paying.

Check the details

Restaurant hours versus port time

Our advice: your ship’s all-aboard time controls the day. Restaurant or shopping hours do not extend your time ashore; allow for the return to your own terminal.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Castries? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Find tours for your port visit

Search up to one year ahead. Schedules are indicative; confirm available departure times and your group’s final price on Viator.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Castries. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

Can I explore independently?

Our suggestion: stay around your arrival area for shopping and a meal. If you want a restaurant across the harbor, settle the transfer and return first. This is our planning suggestion. Compare a ship excursion or reputable independent tour for more complicated outings, including the meeting point and return arrangements.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. EC dollars; US$ widely accepted. Confirm the currency on menus and taxi quotes, and ask which currency you will receive in change.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

Government guidance warns of serious crime, including gang-related violence that can affect public areas. Use licensed taxis, avoid isolated places after dark and keep valuables discreet. Take care in crowded events and keep drinks attended. Confirm transport back to your actual cruise berth before leaving for an independent outing.
