Japan Departure & port-visit guide

Yokohama

A waterfront park and two city districts.

Choose Yamashita Park, the Red Brick Warehouse waterfront or a Chinatown food and browsing visit. First confirm whether your ship uses Osanbashi, Shinko Pier or Daikoku Pier: Daikoku needs a different city connection from the downtown terminals. Keep Tokyo as a separate outing with its full rail or road return checked. When starting a cruise, the line’s assigned passenger entrance and check-in window take priority.

Option 1

Explore on your own

Choose a plan for the stops, food, walking and extra costs. Before sailing, arrange luggage storage and follow your cruise line’s check-in window and final boarding deadline. On a port call, use the ship’s all-aboard time to set your return.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Yamashita Park in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Check the actual terminal before choosing a route

Our suggestion: choose one Yokohama outing and confirm the outward and return connection. Gangway-to-sight walking routes, accessible links, shuttles and current transfer times remain unverified here.

City of Yokohama: three cruise terminals and addresses

Osanbashi station approach

The city’s terminal information identifies Nihon-odori on the Minatomirai Line as Osanbashi’s nearest station and describes an approximately five-minute walk. This is the city’s station-to-terminal estimate, not a measured gangway route or accessible journey assessment. It does not apply to Daikoku or another Yokohama terminal; confirm your assigned building and passenger entrance.

City of Yokohama: passenger terminal access

A Minatomirai day ticket covers that line

The Minatomirai Line publishes an unlimited-ride one-day ticket at JPY 460 for adults and JPY 230 for children, checked October 6, 2026, sold at its station ticket machines. Confirm the current price and whether your planned rides justify the pass. It covers the Minatomirai Line; check separate fares for other rail operators and the actual connection to your cruise terminal, especially if the ship uses Daikoku.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Yokohama? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Yokohama. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Japanese yen (JPY). Confirm local payment methods, transport fares, purchases and the full meal bill directly. No current exchange rate or whole-day budget is established here.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

UK FCDO guidance advises monitoring typhoon, heavy-rain, earthquake and tsunami information and following local authorities, including evacuation orders. Recheck current transport notices; no terminal-to-sight walking route is assessed as safe by these city plans.

How do I get from the airport to the terminal?

How does luggage drop-off work?

Confirm the designated baggage drop-off at your assigned terminal and the time your sailing accepts bags. Attach your cruise luggage tags before handover. Choose a comfortable waterfront section. Park facilities do not prove every route from your berth is step-free; ship and tower interiors are outside this plan.

Compare Tokyo as a separate outing

Account for every connection

Our suggestion: assess the actual Tokyo stops, terminal-to-station connection, train service, interchanges and full return separately. These city plans do not include Tokyo or establish that a Tokyo tour fits your sailing.

Recheck transport and weather notices

Japan’s government travel advice covers typhoons, heavy rain, earthquakes and tsunami alerts. Check current local and rail instructions before travel, and follow any evacuation orders.
