U.S. Virgin Islands Port of call

St. Thomas

Choose a beach day or explore Charlotte Amalie

Start with your terminal: Havensight and Crown Bay are different arrival points. For a beach day, choose Magens Bay or Sapphire, arrange the return ride, and keep lunch and rental costs separate. Choose Fort Christian’s available museum spaces, public spaces in Emancipation Garden or selected downtown streets around Main Street. Each needs a connection from your assigned St. Thomas arrival. Magens Bay, viewpoints and St. John crossings require separate plans.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Havensight cruise dock in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Choose the right return dock

Our advice: save your terminal name and a screenshot of the meeting point before leaving. Do not book a return simply to “the cruise port.”

Arrange the beach return

Our advice: agree on the total passenger fare, currency, pickup location and return time. Leave room for traffic and the walk through the terminal.

Start from the assigned arrival

The port authority distinguishes Crown Bay’s Austin Monsanto terminal from the West Indian Company dock at Havensight and identifies Charlotte Amalie anchorage codes. Confirm the actual berth or tender landing, passenger exit and return arrangements. Downtown Charlotte Amalie is not a single universal ship entrance.

Virgin Islands Port Authority: Crown Bay and Havensight arrivals

Local connections

Confirm the ship’s transfer arrangements or a suitable local vehicle from your actual passenger exit, including pickup, accessible boarding if needed, fare and last return. City streets and attraction entrances are separate from the cruise arrival.

Protect the return

Our suggestion: confirm the actual passenger deadline, both connections, waiting and boarding procedures. Complete transfer times, route distances and fares remain unverified.

VITRAN requires a designated stop and exact fare

Checked October 6, 2026: VITRAN lists its regular fixed-route fare at approximately US$2, effective July 18, 2024. Board at designated stops and deposit the exact fare; no change is given. Confirm your route, direction and return timetable with VITRAN before leaving Crown Bay, Havensight or a tender landing. This public-bus fare does not establish a taxi or safari-vehicle fare, a beach connection or the complete route from your passenger exit.

Booking & access

VI Taxi Association lists transfers from WICO and Crown Bay, custom quotes and wheelchair accommodations by enquiry. Confirm the actual vehicle, boarding equipment, chair dimensions and both pickups before booking. A standard safari vehicle is not evidence of wheelchair access; check the beach or town approach separately. Checked Oct 6, 2026.

Mahi-mahi tacos, burgers, pizza and coconut shrimp. Published hours: daily 10 am–5 pm, with food orders ending at 4 pm. Meals and drinks cost extra. Checked Sep 21, 2026.

Fairchild’s: menu and kitchen hours

Check the chosen place

Our suggestion: check the actual café or restaurant’s opening, ingredients, payment and complete bill. Public spaces or exhibition access do not establish meal service; no current menu price or meal duration is researched here.

What costs extra?

Published information checked Oct 6, 2026. Confirm current prices before paying.

Plan your spending

Entry is only one cost

Our advice: add the return ride, beach admission where charged, shade, chairs and lunch before comparing beach options. Do not assume a taxi quote includes admission.

Check the details

Bring your own picnic

Magens Bay allows visitors to bring food. Our suggestion: check your ship’s rules on taking food ashore before packing anything from onboard.

Can I walk from the ship?

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in St. Thomas. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

Can I explore independently?

Our suggestion: choose Magens or Sapphire, eat nearby, then return to your own terminal. Trying both adds another transfer. This is our planning suggestion. Compare a ship excursion or reputable independent tour for more complicated outings, including the meeting point and return arrangements.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. U.S. dollars. Most businesses accept major cards. Our advice: carry small cash for transport and agree on the full group fare before leaving.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.
