Norfolk

Riverfront views, maritime exhibits, and art galleries.

Norfolk’s cruise terminal sits beside a working waterfront, a maritime museum and the battleship Wisconsin. Choose a waterfront pause, a selected Nauticus visit or the Chrysler Museum’s art galleries. Keep cruise check-in and attraction entry separate, and allow the complete terminal connection even when the destination looks close on a map.

Option 1

Explore on your own

Choose a plan for the stops, food, walking and extra costs. Before sailing, arrange luggage storage and follow your cruise line’s check-in window and final boarding deadline. On a port call, use the ship’s all-aboard time to set your return.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Town Point Park in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Local pickup

Follow terminal signs and agree the return pickup at the actual passenger operation. Private pickup instructions use the designated Waterside Drive area outside Town Point Park, rather than the bus lane.

Validate light rail before boarding

HRT GoMobile supports buses, light rail and the Elizabeth River Ferry. With the app, scan your virtual card when boarding a bus or ferry; for light rail, validate at the platform before boarding. HRT also lists direct bank-card or phone tapping. Confirm the current stop or ferry landing and your separate Half Moone passenger access. Checked Oct 6, 2026.

Make room for lunch

Choose near the activity

Our suggestion: select a food stop near your chosen visit, check ingredients and the full bill, and shorten a queue before reducing the ship-return allowance. Meals are separate from the activity allocation.

What costs extra?

Published information checked Oct 6, 2026. Confirm current prices before paying.

Connections

Confirm both journeys

Price both directions and any waiting. An attraction ticket does not include the cruise-terminal connection.

Entry and purchases

Check the complete charge

Confirm dated admission, optional experiences, meals and purchases separately.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Norfolk? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Find tours for your port visit

Search up to one year ahead. Schedules are indicative; confirm available departure times and your group’s final price on Viator.

Can I walk from the ship?

A downtown terminal does not verify the complete on-foot route. Check the passenger exit, crossings, event barriers and the access needs of your chosen attraction; arrange transport where needed.

Save the cruise passenger entrance

Use Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center at 1 Waterside Drive. The terminal shares the waterfront campus with Nauticus and USS Wisconsin, but an attraction entrance is not the cruise check-in operation.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Norfolk. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. U.S. dollars (USD). Confirm transport, admission, food and any additional charges separately. No complete outing budget is established.

Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.
