France Departure & port-visit guide

Nice

Baie des Anges, Riviera history, Cours Saleya.

Choose a selected Promenade des Anglais stretch, Riviera history at Villa Masséna or public Cours Saleya and old-town streets. Confirm whether your booking arrives in Nice’s own harbor or separate Villefranche-sur-Mer before arranging both connections. Cruises also start in Nice, so airport arrival, luggage and joining instructions need separate planning. Monaco, Èze, Cannes and longer coastal trips require their own return assessment.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Promenade des Anglais in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Worth knowing before you walk off

Checked Oct 4, 2026. Confirm fares and hours locally before paying.

Getting around

Start from the actual passenger exit

This guide covers Nice’s own Port Lympia harbor. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a separate cruise-call location, even when a sailing describes the destination as Nice. Confirm the actual port, assigned berth or tender landing and return entrance with the line. Ferry and marina addresses are not automatically your cruise check-in point.

Local connections

Lignes d’Azur identifies line 2 between airport terminals, Jean Médecin and Port Lympia station. Confirm current service, tickets, stops, luggage and accessible links. A station-to-station journey is not the whole cruise connection, and Port Lympia is not Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Protect the return

Our suggestion: confirm the actual passenger deadline, both connections, waiting and clearance. Complete transfer times, route distances and fares remain unverified.

Airport arrival

Lignes d’Azur line 2 serves airport Terminals 1 and 2 and Port Lympia station. Confirm current service, luggage, tickets and the remaining connection to your assigned cruise entrance. This is not a complete airport-to-gangway allowance or a direct connection to Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Lignes d’Azur: airport terminals, line 2 and Port Lympia station

A connection is not a return journey

Lignes d’Azur requires validation on every boarding, including transfers. Its FAQ permits a connection to another line within 74 minutes but excludes treating that as a return trip. Check for the successful green signal and resolve a rejected ticket before travelling. Confirm the actual port arrival and both connections to your chosen city stop. Checked Oct 6, 2026.

Lignes d Azur validation and transfers

Make room for lunch

Confirm the chosen place

Our suggestion: check the actual café or restaurant’s opening, ingredients, payment and complete bill. Public streets or exhibition access do not establish meal service; no current menu price or meal duration is researched here.

What costs extra?

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Nice? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Euros (EUR).
