Plan around your all-aboard time

What to do in Nassau on a short cruise stop

For a short Nassau stop, choose one clear purpose: browse the town or spend time at Junkanoo Beach. The example below starts with four hours remaining when you can actually leave the ship, ending at all-aboard. A four-hour scheduled port call gives you less usable time.

Start with the time you actually have

Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Choose one main outing

Town works when you want nearby streets and short browsing stops that you can cut easily. The beach works when you want one place to settle in, then return on the same walking route. Choose one plan; the example does not combine both.

Work backward from your deadline

This example has 4 hr available. It is a planning exercise, not your ship’s schedule. Use the upper activity allowance and keep the return reserve untouched.

  • Town & market: after the upper activity allowance and return reserve, 1 hr remains for all transport and waiting. This is the maximum room in the example, not an estimate of the journey. Confirm that every connection fits before choosing it.

Confirm the assigned berth, your actual walking pace and port re-entry conditions. These are conditional walking budgets, not a measured journey from every gangway. If the connection takes longer than the allowance, reduce the visit or stay closer to the ship.

If you have less time

Leave a separate Arawak Cay sit-down lunch for a less hurried visit. Adding it to the beach plan introduces another walk and meal service. If disembarkation is late, shorten browsing or beach time before you leave, and keep the return reserve.

Check before you go

The port lists Junkanoo Beach as a 13-minute walk and Arawak Cay as a 30-minute walk from the port. Those figures do not settle the walk from every berth or security waiting. Rechecked September 23, 2026.
