Croatia Departure & port-visit guide

Dubrovnik

Stone streets, seafaring stories, coastal views.

Choose selected public stretches of Stradun, available Maritime Museum galleries or a public section of Lapad’s seaside promenade. These give three different Dubrovnik focuses. Wall walks, Srđ, Lokrum, Cavtat and regional trips need separate entry, travel and return plans. Departure passengers also need confirmed airport, baggage and boarding arrangements for their actual terminal.

Choose a plan for the stops, food, walking and extra costs. Before sailing, arrange luggage storage and follow your cruise line’s check-in window and final boarding deadline. On a port call, use the ship’s all-aboard time to set your return.

Start with the time you actually have

On embarkation day, work back from your cruise line’s check-in window instead. Count from when you can get off the ship, or ashore by tender, to the all-aboard time, using ship time. Times on these plans are our estimates, with time to spare; they cannot promise a plan fits your sailing.

Short plans need up to 4 hours in total, medium up to 6, long more than 6. A plan with a connection still to confirm has no total.

Put your day on the map

Select a terminal or place to see its location and open directions.

Open Stradun streets in Google Maps

Choose a place for its location, then open Google Maps for directions. Confirm the terminal on your cruise documents; a map result does not establish your ship’s berth or an accessible route.

Getting around

Start from the actual passenger exit

The port authority identifies Gruž as its passenger port and records homeport turnaround operations there in 2026. Confirm your ship’s actual berth, terminal, passenger exit, any changed tender arrangement and return entrance. The historic city harbour, ferry boarding points and intercity bus terminal are separate facilities, not universal cruise check-in locations.

Local connections

The tourist board distinguishes Gruž from the pedestrian old city and Lapad. Confirm your ship’s shuttle or current public transport, actual pickup, suitable city entrance, accessible boarding, tickets and last return. Generic walking estimates are not a measured route from your assigned passenger exit.

Dubrovnik Tourist Board: pedestrian old city and separate Gruž connection

Protect the return

Our suggestion: confirm the actual passenger deadline, both connections, waiting and clearance. Published leg estimates or ticket prices do not establish a complete transfer allowance.

Airport arrival

The airport operator lists the Platanus shuttle and Libertas public bus options. Confirm current schedule, actual city stop, luggage and the remaining journey to your assigned Gruž cruise entrance. Its road estimate concerns the city connection, not a complete airport-to-gangway or check-in allowance; no whole transfer fare is established.

Compare city bus ticket products

Checked October 5, 2026: Libertas lists an onboard city ticket at €2.50 for one bus ride, a one-hour ticket at €1.73 and a daily ticket at €5.31. The one-hour and daily products expire one hour and 24 hours respectively after first registration in the vehicle. Check the current product, purchase method and route before travelling.

Libertas Dubrovnik: city bus ticket prices

Budget the return independently

A single onboard ticket covers one bus ride. Include the return journey in your budget and confirm your ship’s pickup and last practical return. These city ticket prices do not establish an airport fare, a cruise shuttle fare or travel time from your assigned Gruž passenger exit.

Make room for lunch

Confirm the chosen place

Our suggestion: check the actual café or restaurant’s opening, ingredients, payment and complete bill. Public streets or exhibition access do not establish meal service; no current menu price or meal duration is researched here.

What costs extra?

Published information checked Oct 5, 2026. Confirm current prices before paying.

Option 2

Take a planned tour

Prefer an organized outing in Dubrovnik? Browse tours with Viator, then check the exact meeting point, departure, inclusions and cancellation terms before booking.

Tour duration is only part of your time ashore. Allow for getting to the meeting point, early check-in, any transfers outside the tour and your return reserve. Confirm the ship’s clock, all-aboard time and any earlier last tender. These results have not been checked against your sailing.

Before you go ashore

How long is the ship in port, and when is all-aboard?

Port hours vary by ship and date in Dubrovnik. Check your sailing itinerary for scheduled arrival and departure, then the onboard app or daily notice for all-aboard, ship time and any last-tender deadline. Subtract clearance, both transfers and a return buffer before choosing an outing. Scheduled arrival is not your guaranteed time ashore.

What should I take ashore?

Take your ship card or wearable, the identification specified in the ship’s port briefing, any tour ticket and a way to pay. Save your terminal name, return deadline and ship’s emergency contact offline. Ask whether your original passport is required for this visit; do not assume a phone photo replaces required identification. Euros (EUR). The European Central Bank identifies Croatia as using the euro. Confirm payment methods, the currency charged and the complete bill directly; no exchange rate or whole-day price is established.

How do I get off and back on the ship?

Wait for the ship’s announcement that passengers may go ashore. Follow its gangway, shuttle or tender instructions and any ticketing order. Keep your ship identification ready when leaving and returning. Allow for terminal access checks, queues and security screening before reboarding; tender passengers also need to meet the last return boat.

What should I know about safety around the port?

UK FCDO Croatia guidance notes pickpockets in tourist areas and advises protecting valuables, following local instructions at crowded events and observing Dubrovnik’s public-behavior rules. Check current local conditions and your ship’s briefing. No complete passenger-route safety assessment is established.

Starting or ending your cruise here

For embarkation, use your cruise line’s terminal and check-in instructions. After the cruise, allow for disembarkation, baggage collection and the airport transfer before airline check-in.

Where can I park, and what does it cost?

Confirm the full voyage separately. Whole-voyage cruise parking permission, reservation terms and a complete current quote remain unverified. Confirm overnight and full-stay eligibility, the actual vehicle entrance, restrictions, security and all voyage dates directly. Nearby city parking and airport parking do not establish a cruise parking arrangement or early bag handover.

How do I get from the airport to the terminal?

Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport (DBV). The airport operator lists the Platanus shuttle and Libertas public bus options. Confirm current schedule, actual city stop, luggage and the remaining journey to your assigned Gruž cruise entrance.
